A proud recap of our first Mending Meet-Up of 2024
I was fortunate to be involved in organising the first London Sewists Mending Meet-up in Shepherds Bush, London earlier this month. It was a wonderful event full of enthusiasm and love for our clothes.
My Co-host Janene @Ooobop, has written a wonderful recap of the event which I urge you to go and read here: https://ooobop.com/our-first-mending-meet-up-of-2024-a-proud-recap/
The venue was perfect, the people were enthusiastic and the resounding feelings from the day were of collaboration, care and calm. The beautiful photos taken by Daniel Selway take me back immediately to the joy of the day!
When I booked Nicole Akong to do a talk on how she chooses what to transform and why, I knew she’d share some nuggets of inspiration with us! Her talk really was one of the highlights of the day and my year, so far! Totally inspirational.
She urged us to explore creative mending, dressing and sewing on our own terms, making time to discover our authentic self. You can watch the talk on our Youtube channel now.
This theme of transforming clothes from something of no desire or relevance in our lives to something which expresses our tastes and gels with our lifestyles is one I’ll be exploring in depth over the next few months- make sure you and your friends are signed up to this newsletter to find out more about the Sew Your Own Style program!
I am certain this won’t be the last event Janene and I host together and I’m sure I’ll be looking for more opportunities to host and attend mending events in the future. So would you come to a mending event in your local area? I’d love to know, what does mending mean to you?
