Pattern Review… Cynthia's contrast print collar Cosy Jersey Jumper
Cynthia @cynthiakrafts kindly agreed to write a review of her make after testing the Cosy Jersey Jumper Add-on Pattern. Cynthia received this pattern to make and review with no obligation. The opinions shared are all her own.
“I made my Cosy Jersey Jumper using sweat-shirting fabric which was quite nice to work. It did cause a bit of bulk in some areas where you had 3/4 layers of fabric so I had to trim quite a bit of the bulk away. This might be less so if you working with the lighter weight fabric.
I used a ball point needle which stitched the fabric with ease. The sweat-shirting fabric I used does not fray so I used pinking scissors to finish the raw edges. Only used the overlocker for the cuffs, as found it was easier and quicker than to stitch them. Still need to build my confidence with making the whole garment with just the overlocker. Another challenge for my next make.
Having used MHW patterns previously again the instructions and illustrations we clear and easy to follow, although the sweater pattern instructions could include the referenced instructions in the cosy dress/tunic pattern. This made this make a quick job.
I was between sizes medium and large so graded the pattern between the two sizes. The fit turned out well. The collar turned out a bit loser and not as snug as I would like it. Could be affected by the lighter fabric I used for the inner collar. Will match the fabric type on my next make.
The collar was a bit of challenge as to create the v shape is a bit tricky. After a couple of attempts it was perfect. It is worth not rushing this part to make sure you catch all the fabric and make the turns.
The cosy sweater is an everyday wear and I know my sweater will get a lot of wear. The sweat-shirting fabric that was in my stash I used is very warm and cosy. Of cause had to put in a splash of colour in African print 2 way stretch in the inside of the collar. I did think after it might had also been a good idea if I had put some of that colour on the inside pockets. An excuse to make another sweater :)
